CHURCH LITURGY AND MUSIC (BLUM)
BLUM's responsibility is liturgy and music within the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church Abroad (in Exile), LELBA's* parent organization. Specifically, BLUM helps clarify which texts are to be used in following the Revised Common Lectionary. That is, the department makes clear which prayers, litanies, introits, psalms and so on are to be used on each particular day of worship within the three year cycle (years A, B, C, which repeat) that the Revised Common Lectionary dictates. BLUM also lists prayers, litanies et cetera to be used as an alternative to those indicated by the three year lectionary for Sunday worship services. The department's goal is to review texts to be used for services which do not fit into the lectionary, for example, for baptisms, confirmations, weddings, funerals, monument / memorial / building consecrations and so forth. BLUM is developing a supplement to the Hymnal of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia and in Exile (first printing 1992).
